I recently got back from a trip to Europe and North Africa and for the first couple of weeks I was on an excitement high. I had all these ideas of things I wanted to do but as time went by, they slowly turned into stress and anxiety and I didn’t feel like doing any of them. I became extremely critical of myself for procrastinating and lacking motivation. Self-critique never helped anyone so I decided to introspect and funny enough this blogpost which I had written a while back helped me figure out what was going on.
I was doing things without a purpose because everyone else was doing it. I was trying to fit in and was suffering from a severe case of FOMO. I had to take a step back and write down my goals, my values, what I wanted to focus on and the whys for all three. Then I evaluated all the things that I was doing and asked myself “Do they align with my goals, values and areas I want to focus on”?
Guess what? I was stressed because the things I was doing didn’t align with my goals, values and focus areas.
My definition of goals as the things that I want to be known for.
My values are my foundation and the things which keep me grounded.
My focus areas are my learning opportunities and areas for growth and improvement.
Do you need to realign your actions with your goals, values and focus areas? Do you need to develop goals, values and focus areas?
