Oral history is a key part of West African oral tradition used to pass down values and traditions from one generation to the next. Folktales are part of African oral history and are usually filled with wisdom, which convey a moral or teach a lesson. I wrote this book because as a child, my Father always told us folktales that had been passed down to him. This was a tradition in my family which my siblings and I looked forward to. As I grew older, I couldn’t remember any of these tales, so I reached out to members of my community to tell me the tales once more, so that I could preserve this piece of history. What makes this book unique is; this is the first time that these stories have been written down and visually represented.
